As a Principal Engineer with Eagleicher Technologies you will join our Research and Development team as a key contributor and leader in hands-on development of cells and batteries to advance our Lithium-Ion power systems used for lasers, aircraft, satellites, and more. You will work with industry leaders within the company as well with customers who include NASA, JPL, BAE, Lockheed Martin, NOAA, Lawrence Livermore Labs, and Fortune 500 companies around the world. You will also interface with universities and technical institutions to develop cutting-edge technologies to advance our technology roadmaps and leverage technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms to deliver the needed data and capabilities. The role will support R&D design and development functions for East Greenwich’s R&D facility for development efforts. This position will be responsible for the effective use the design tools to design, document and maintain configuration control for Aerospace, Defense, and R&D battery systems. In addition, the person will be responsible to maintaining an Engineering Data base that will ensure document control processes. The position will work within an multidisciplinary team of Scientists and Engineers, and will adhere to company policies and procedures.The position will oversee work functions both directly and indirectly for other engineering team members.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in multiple aspects of battery design and the ability to support the design, development and qualification of Lithium-ion batteries for EaglePicher. You will be a key leader in the product development team, working closely with our research, product and process engineering, and quality, and operations staff to help drive and execute new projects to completion and support existing products. Responsibilities

  • Lead Engineering efforts for mechincal and design focused battery development activities as the lead battery design engineering expert for new and existing rechargeable batteries and support all project performance, timeline and cost targets.
  • Lead, guide and mentor junior staff in order to improve EP’s processes and capabilities to become world class
  • Direct the preparation and demonstration of design concepts to meet product specifications.
  • Know and apply current Engineering practices in light of Manufacturing and Quality Control considerations.
  • Make and/or direct the calculations involving engineering sciences (static, dynamic) and other associated subjects.
  • Perform administrative functions of budgeting, spending control, salary/performance reviews, capital planning and participate in the tooling program requirements. Develop policies and procedures as required.
  • Interface with key customers and make customer presentations – create and present presentations to various customers in support of developing/executing “technology roadmaps”, specific customer applications in support of Field Sales, etc.
  • Effectively communicate with peers, management and customers to define and sell product needs.
  • Initiate, design, develop and coordinate projects of varying complexity in support of company goals as needed.
  • Take the lead on failure analysis and root cause investigations in support of current and ongoing development products.
  • Stay abreast of the state of the art in battery technology and make recommendations that support EP’s strategic initiatives.
  • Work with external partners/suppliers to enable the adoption of the appropriate materials or technologies in order to bring the most value to EP and our customers without compromising robustness or quality.
  • Build relationships, work closely with and support all appropriate functions within the company to help grow the EaglePicher business.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or other related Engineering is required.
  • 5-7+ years of relevant experience is required with a strong foundation in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or Systems Engineering
  • Experience with Solidwords/AutoCAD/Battery Modeling Software
  • Experience in transitioning R&D Projects from concept, design, and manufacturing.
  • Experience working on batteries, electronics, or energy storage systems.
  • Good understanding of the interaction between chemistry, materials, and processes and their impact on product performance and safety
  • High level of understanding of design for manufacturability with demonstrated track record of successful product development
  • Demonstrated capability in team leadership
  • Strong problem solving and root cause analysis skills
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships across an organization and work collaboratively across functions and locations
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident

In addition to meeting the basic requirements, the most successful candidate will also have:

  • Defense or Aerospace industry experience and familiarity with ISO 9001:2015 and AS9100D certifications and stage gate development processes is highly desirable.
  • Motivated, passionate, self-starter with a track record of delivering above and beyond expectations
  • Experience with battery materials, electrolytes, cell design, electrode processing, cell performance and safety.
  • Electrochemistry, Electrochemical Engineering, or battery-specific Engineering experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Project management skills
  • Training, experience and capability in statistical analysis
  • A can-do attitude, passion to succeed and an ability and willingness to wear multiple hats as needed
