Job Description

Overview

The Material Project Manager will be responsible for materials planning, procurement and support supplier selection and development.  You will also ensure compliance with proposals and contract execution.    You will work closely with engineering and program management on early Bill of Material (BOM) development and together work on finalizing the BOM as it becomes the as-built configuration.  You will develop strong supplier relationships to help meet cost, quality and delivery requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure materials are ordered on time to support contract deliveries; expedite materials as needed and report issues early
  • Ensure proposals are compliant with quote requirements and submitted on time
  • Work with the team on back-up plans and work-arounds to reduce program risk
  • Work with Engineering to:
    • build out supplier database and capability for upcoming programs
    • manage change and update suppliers and POs and needed
  • Work with Program Management to establish material budgets and provide regular updates as quotes and actual costs are available
  • Flow down requirements to suppliers as needed per contract
  • Help qualify new suppliers to place in our procurement system
  • Work with suppliers to:
    • obtain best overall cost including price, delivery, and quality
    • complete supplier RFX process
    • develop clear understanding of product and suppliers to ensure capabilities exist
  • Work closely with Finance on procurement protocols, methods and systems
  • Determine and implement the most economic ordering methods
  • Request quotes for customer contract proposals with guidance from leadership
  • Back-up and oversee shipping and receiving functions as needed
  • Work with Manufacturing on inventory of consumables and other stock items
  • Identify and document items to be controlled and the information to be captured and recorded
  • Maintain records of customer owned materials

Requirements

  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Bachelor Degree plus 5 years experience working in procurement and/or contracts
  • Ability to communicate, interview, and work quickly and effectively in a quality oriented team environment
  • Self-motivated, high energy; ability to work under demanding deadlines; excellent priority/judgment skills
  • Computer skills in word, excel, and MRP systems
  • Experience in a start-up environment, Research and Development and/or high mix-low volume manufacturing
  • Strong problem solving and project management skills
  • Excellent communication skills, oral and written
  • Technical curiosity of our products and ability to learn more about them
  • Experience with government contracts, FAR/DFAR clauses and flowdowns very helpful
