The Associate Manufacturing Engineer Technician's functions as an associate engineer working with senior engineers. This person is expected to apply FEA method and mechanical design skills to design and simulate all phases of battery development and process. Basic functions include development of mechanical design envelope and components of a battery from concepts to prototypes; performing design analysis and arriveing at design solution through mechanical engineering principles and FEA. The candidate will perform experiments to validate FEA processes; develop design specifications for components, assembled parts and equipment for design validation and provide tool design needed for functional, dimensional and visual requirements of components; demonstrate manufacturing feasibility and technical justification for selected design approach; work with tool engineers, production engineers, suppliers and other engineering specialities to meet manufacturing requirements; and will interface with product development groups to implement design into production. The candidate will work with outside vendors and inside engineering resources to obtain prototype parts and equipment; develop project plans and qualification plans for new design; update management, peers and business partners on progress and contribute to team environment.


The core responsibilities of the position are:

  • Actively improve and drive process, productivity and quality improvements through measurement, detailed analysis, and sustaining improvement with process control methods
  • Be responsible for design and development of automated equipment for ramp in production
  • Correct production problems utilizing root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions
  • Be a major player in design for manufacturability on new projects in the stage gate process
  • Adapt Lean Six Sigma, SPC and other methods to fit process need driving stability and overall systematic process improvements
  • Other duties as assigned

Key Objectives:

  • Support/improve production processes to achieve targeted level of scrap reduction
  • Maintain inventory of logged equipment and tooling
  • Achieve equipment uptime of 95%
  • Perform Preventative Maintenance

Leadership Competencies:

  • Function as team leader in problem solving and manufacturing process improvement


  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science or relevant technical degree
  • One year manufacturing experience preferred in industrial engineering or scientific discipline utilizing science and engineering problem solving methods along with Lean Six-Sigma
  • Excellent computer skills in Windows OS and Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience in data measurement, analysis and report authoring using sound statistical analysis methods
  • Good communication skills in cross-functional team environment
  • Able to multi-task managing multiple different priority tasks
  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident

Hiring Preferences:

  • Sigma process improvement methods
  • Welding knowledge is a plus
  • Experience with GMP, ISO and AS-9100 quality system methods is a plus
