Summary:

EaglePicher Technologies, based in Joplin, Missouri, is seeking a Material Scientist to join our world class Research and Development Team. 

This position is integral in the development of new and innovative battery designs for multiple applications and chemistries, including defense and military applications.  This is a hands-on position providing the candidate with the opportunity to conceive, develop and perform experiments to identify new and improved materials with unique properties for use in our highly technical and complex power sources.  Additionally, this role will support the development of battery designs and will allow the successful candidate the opportunity to investigate and make recommendations on new and improved methods to improve electrode materials, additives and coatings used in the manufacture of our highly technical and unique products.

Ogoing Responsibilities:

  • Identify and develop materials, additives, and electrolytes for use in batteries
  • Support the product development and processing teams with material evaluation and characterization
  • Develop characterization methods to evaluate battery components utilizing internal and external analytical testing capabilities
  • Conduct benchmark studies of various battery materials, additives, and solvents, and provide critical assessment of their potential through analytical chemistry, electrochemistry and cell testing
  • Contribute to the development of new products with innovative approaches that lead to intellectual property and new business opportunities
  • Safely handle materials and practice good laboratory procedures in compliance with corporate quality and chemical hygiene policies
  • Demonstrate active support of technology and mission, corporate vision and quality initiatives
  • Perform administrative tasks associated with job function and provide regular updates on progress through presentations and progress reports
Key Objectives:
  • Become an expert in battery materials characterization and processing
  • Develop expertise in battery fabrication techniques (coin cells, pouch cells and other configurations)
  • Become an expert in battery testing and characterization techniques including calendar life, cycle life, rate capability and other characterization methods.
Hiring Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, chemical engineering or related field
  • BS with 2-7 years of experience, MS with 2-4 years and PhD with 1-2 years of experience
  • Knowledge and research experience related to material processing and characterization techniques using state of the art analytical methods
  • Knowledge of electrochemistry is a plus
  • Creative and innovative with demonstrated ability to support the development of novel materials as well as adapt existing materials
  • Experience with material characterization tool such as; SEM, XRD, TGA, DSC, BET, and electrochemical techniques
  • Able to contribute to collaborative team environment
  • Self-motivated and driven
