ONGOING JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Utilize chemical and materials expertise to mitigate production issues and obsolescence with energetic mixes.
  • Develop new energetic formulations and corresponding manufacturing processes.
  • Participate in the development of new energetic devices
  • Participate in failure analysis of energetic devices by utilizing materials knowledge and analytical skills to evaluate the energetic components.
KEY OBJECTIVES 
  • Develop analytical skills and apply them to energetic chemistries
  • Identify analytical tests for energetic ingredients and perform baseline testing
  • Support failure investigations with analysis of energetics
  • Modify energetic solutions to make more suitable for automated dispensing

HIRING REQUIREMENTS 
  • B.S. in Engineering (electrical, chemical or mechanical preferred) or other technical field (Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry)
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Self-starter and schedule-driven
  • Demonstrate attention to detail through accuracy and completeness of information
  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
HIRING PREFERENCES
A technical degree is required.  The ideal candidate would have experience with the manufacturing and safe handling of energetic devices.  The candidate should have strengths in three main areas:

1. Analytical Chemistry

The principle role for this position is to provide an interface for applying sound analytical methodology to numerous chemical-manufacturing processes.  Work experience in more than one of the following is required:  Inorganic, Ceramic, Metallurgical, Energetic, and/or Environmental Chemistry.

Specific analysis techniques include the following:

SEM, EDS, AA, ICP-OES, Laser Particle Size Analysis, BET Surface Area/Pore Analyzer, DSC, TGA, EIS Spectroscopy, Microscopy,  Bomb Calorimetry, XRD, CHN Analyzer, and Wet Chemistry Techniques.  Individual monitors and interprets daily analytical data generated by lab technicians.  Communication of trends and process improvements to management/process supervisors is required.

2. Process Chemistry

Individual provides hands on experience in powder/bulk solids processing including sizing, milling, blending, agglomeration, reducing segregation, and drying.  A strong knowledge of the effects of process on material reactivity/formulation is imperative.  Understanding of powder compression and flow characteristics is helpful.  Materials routinely handled may be flammable solids, flammable liquids, pyrotechnic, and/or explosive in nature.

3. Materials Research and Development

This position leads projects including:


  • Replacement/qualification of suppliers
  • Replacement/reformulation/qualification of materials due to obsolescence
  • Development of materials manufacturing processes
  • Development of new analytical techniques
  • Assists/consults in Failure Analysis with Production Engineering
  • Develops Design of Experiment (DOE) plans with Process Engineering
  • Develops unique powder formulations from Bench to Production Scale. 
  • Direct team interaction with Hourly Labors is required
  • Serves as a technical liaison with additional EaglePicher Divisions
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  
  • Minimal Education level Required: B.S. in Engineering or other technical field (Physics, Chemistry)
  • Preferred Educational Level (if applicable): MS in Engineering or other technical field
